Journal History & Transition
The Asian Educational Therapist is the official peer-reviewed journal of the Association of Educational Therapists (Singapore). The journal serves as the Association’s flagship scholarly platform for the dissemination of high-quality, evidence-based, and clinically relevant research addressing the assessment, diagnosis, and intervention of individuals with learning, developmental, behavioural, and psychosocial challenges across the lifespan. It is committed to fostering translational integration between neuroscience, education, and therapeutic practice, with the aim of improving both educational and clinical outcomes.
Digitalisation Initiative (August 2025)
In August 2025, the Association undertook a major digital transformation by implementing PKP Open Journal Systems (OJS) as its full editorial and publishing platform. As part of this initiative, the journal began systematically assigning Crossref Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all articles for content registration.
This digitalisation effort was driven by several key objectives:
(i) To ensure long-term digital preservation and archiving of the Association’s scholarly output;
(ii) To significantly improve global discoverability through academic databases, search engines, and research networks;
(iii) To provide persistent identifiers (DOIs) that enable reliable citation tracking, linking, and impact measurement;
(iv) To modernise editorial workflows with proper peer review documentation, versioning, and open access compliance.
Continuity from Previous Titles
The journal represents the natural evolution and consolidation of the Association’s publishing activities. It succeeds and continues the scholarly mission of previous titles, most notably the Early Years Research (EYR) journal, ISSN: 2810-9015, which has now been officially discontinued.
EYR was also published by the same Association. To responsibly manage the scholarly record and prevent loss of valuable research, selected high-quality articles from Early Years Research journal are being republished in the current journal.
These republished articles are presented in two distinct categories:
(i) Republication: Original articles republished with minor technical improvements such as copyediting, updated formatting, and reference list enhancements. The intellectual content remains unchanged.
(ii) Updated and Republished Version: Articles that have been substantially revised and updated by the original authors to reflect current knowledge, recent developments, and contemporary practices in the field. These articles have undergone a fresh peer review process in the current journal.
All republications and updated versions have been undertaken with the explicit consent of the original authors. Authors were informed of the nature of the republication, the peer review process where applicable and the editorial notes that accompany their articles.
Every republished article is accompanied by a clear and prominent Editorial Note that provides full transparency regarding its original publication details, any revisions made, and its relationship to the current journal version.
Our Commitment
This carefully managed transition demonstrates the Association’s strong commitment to:
(i) Ethical and transparent publishing practices in line with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and international standards;
(ii) Responsible stewardship of the scholarly record and prevention of knowledge loss;
(iii) Supporting authors who wish to update and modernise their earlier work;
(iv) Building a sustainable, visible, and impactful single journal platform for the future;
(v) Maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity while improving accessibility and citation impact of our published research.
Where an article has been updated and republished, the version of record is the revised version published in The Asian Educational Therapist. For articles republished without changes, readers are encouraged to cite the current version to facilitate discovery, while acknowledging the original publication in the editorial note.
